A weekly view of the comings and goings in the garden.
I’ve always wanted to have a mini wildlife container pond / water feature in the garden in the hopes of attracting a range of wildlife and providing home for various creatures.
Having chosen the container i was going use for my mini pond , I had to ensure it was watertight. I plugged the drainage hole with silicone sealant and let it dry overnight.
A pond liner was added to make sure it will be as watertight as possible
The container was then taken outside and set in the spot I had picked for it
To keep the liner in place, I filled the bottom of the container with pond gravel.
A staple gun was used to secure it to the container’s rim, and the excess was cut away for a neat finish
Rocks were then added to create a range of depths and slopes for creatures to climb in an out, as well as for plants to rest on
The pond was then filled with rainwater collected from the waterbutt.
Marginal pond plants were added to give a visual interest to the pond as well as to help to keep the water clear. These plants had been repotted into mesh baskets filled with aquatic compost. The baskets were then topped with gravel to keep the compost in place.
A long branch was added to allow birds to perch on and animals climb out.
A solar fountain was added to create a tranquil atmosphere and to help with water aeration
A step was made to the side of the pond using rocks so that little creatures can easily be get in and out.
